Matteo Darmian’s future at Manchester United isn’t certain as Jose Mourinho prefers Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw over the Italian defender, who can play on either side of the defence.

The 26-year-old is reportedly wanted by Inter, who made a last minute attempt to sign him.

According to a latest report on Italian website Calciomercato, Mourinho’s plans to sign AS Monaco’s Fabinho could further jeopardise Darmian’s future at Manchester United.

Calciomercato believe Darmian could be heading back to Serie A should Fabinho arrive at the club in a future window.

Inter and Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Darmian. It’s reported Juventus especially like the player because of his ability to play in a three-man defence. Both Serie A clubs are ready to go head to head for Darmian in January, but a lot could change from now until then.

The cost of Fabinho would likely be inflated in January, and Mourinho may well prefer to wait until next summer. However, Calciomercato appear to disagree and say Fabinho’s arrival at Manchester United is ‘probable’.

Darmian arrived at Manchester United from Torino for €19m in 2015, and has another three years left on his contract.
