Newcastle United have faced a major setback in their pursuit for Renan Lodi, according to reports.

ESPN Brasil today writes that the talks between the Magpies and the player’s representatives ‘did not advance’, and his staff have now ‘already completely ruled out’ the transfer to St. James’ Park.

The story, written by journalist Gustavo Hofman, claims Newcastle had been the favourites to sign the player from Atletico Madrid this summer.

Now the player is said to have an ‘undefined’ future at the La Liga side, while he’s also wanted by French, Italian and English clubs.

It’s said Atletico Madrid will not accept a bid of less than €30m, and with Lodi losing space at the Colchoneros’ squad, there’s the possibility of a loan.

The lack of playing time is the reason why the player asked his representatives for a move.

The interesting thing is that the reason why Newcastle failed to sign the player isn’t revealed, although it does sound like they couldn’t reach an agreement with the La Liga side.
