Following the recent claims saying Edu Gaspar has decided to leave the Brazilian national team and join Arsenal, the CBF has now responded to it.

The Brazilian Football Confederation has released a statement denying the claims, saying the former midfielder has a contract running until the 2022 World Cup.

They admit that Gaspar has told them about an approach from an ‘English club’, but he would be focused on working as the national team coordinator during the Copa America, which is being hosted in Brazil this summer.

CBF also used the opportunity to dismiss the rumours about who would take Gaspar’s job, since a few names had already been out in the local press.

Edu Gaspar’s agreement with Arsenal had been reported earlier this week, first by journalist Juca Kfouri. It’s been claimed that he’s had a deal with the Gunners since February, and will be taking the job after the Copa America.

The CBF don’t have the best reputation when it comes to a lot of things, so whilst this announcement may look to kill things, there’s a reasonable chance it’s not the truth.
