Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães is ‘currently undergoing medical examinations’ ahead his move to Newcastle United, according to reports from the local media.
Globo Esporte journalist André Hernan claims the player is being examined in Belo Horizonte, where the national team arrived this morning.
Following an agreement between the Magpies and Lyon, this should be the last stage before the clubs confirm a deal for the 24-year-old, which has been agreed in the past few days.
Bruno Guimarães had been in Ecuador, where Brazil played on Thursday night, and only arrived in Belo Horizonte today. They’re staying there until next week, when they play Paraguay, so that was the only way to complete the move before the transfer deadline.
The midfielder joined Lyon on a €20m from Atletico Paranaense in 2020.
The fee is believed to be of around €40m or so plus €8m in bonuses, but some in France reckon it’s actually €42m + €8m in bonuses.
