Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus has just arrived in Brazil, where he’s set to sign a one-year contract with Flamengo.

The move is being taken by the local press as a big deal, since it’s not easy to take a famous manager out of Europe and convince him to take charge of a South American side.

Now Flamengo fans have one more reason to be proud of signing Jesus, at least according to a claim from a local journalist. That’s because Thiago Asmar says the manager has rejected Chelsea to join the Rio de Janeiro side.

On a Youtube video, Asmar claims that he was speaking to a friend in Portugal who was having dinner with Jorge Jesus. That’s when the journalist had a chance to chat with the manager, and was told by Jesus himself that he rejected an offer from Chelsea.

It’s claimed that Jesus didn’t want to say how much Roman Abramovich was offering him, and the reason he chose Flamengo is because he wanted a bigger challenge.

Thiago Asmar used to work for Globo, the biggest media company in Brazil, and ended up leaving the job after a scandal. He now owns a Youtube channel, so although we’re not a fan of this kind of source, that’s a reporter with an interesting background.

True or not, this story should be a subject in Jesus’ press conference once he’s officially presented by Flamengo.
