On Thursday morning, the Brazilian media was caught by surprise with a story saying the national team were in touch for the signing of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The information brought by Marca said that following the farewell of Tite after the World Cup, the CBF had now started working to land the Catalan boss to be his successor.
Now as the Brazilian press starts getting more information on this case, the word is that this move isn’t happening so soon.
A report from Extra claims that CBF’s new president Ednaldo Rodrigues indeed has a ‘personal desire’ of signing Guardiola, and told that to people around him. However, no contacts or meetings have taken place yet.
It’s said there’s still time until Tite leaves, and for now, the official is more focused on signing the directors which will work with him for the coming years.
Extra points out that with time to choose a new manager, CBF could wait until the end of Pep Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City, which expires in 2023.
Since Brazil’s intention would be to have the manager in charge for the 2026 World Cup, there’s still be plenty of time for him to work with the team.
