Brazilian giants Santos have rejected a bid from Everton for Lucas Veríssimo, according to claims from Brazil today.
Website UOL says the Toffees tried to sign the defender on a loan deal with an option to buy, but that was turned down by the Vila Belmiro side.
Santos are in need of money, and that’s why they’ve authorised several intermediates to offer Lucas Veríssimo to European clubs.
But it also means that they need the payment now, so it would make no sense to loan the 24 year old with no guarantee he would be bought.
Lucas Veríssimo has been standing out for Santos for a couple of years now, and was picked for the Brazilian League’s best XI by ESPN last month.
He’s seen by the club as their man chance of making some money in the January transfer window.
Santos own 80% of his rights, and expect to make at least €10m with the sale.
