Gustavo Scarpa’s agreement to join Nottingham Forest in January has been big news in Brazil in the past few days. The local media has been full of stories explaining why Palmeiras preferred to let him go for free instead of selling him, and the replacements they’re already targeting.

Now, speaking solely about the midfielder, Lance features a story with a few more details on the player’s decision to join the Reds.

It’s claimed that Scarpa recently had approaches from clubs from Spain, France, Portugal, United States and Saudi Arabia.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, had been monitoring his situation ‘for a few months’. They were interested in signing him only in the event they got promotion to the Premier League. Once they did, the talks ‘intensified’, and the parties soon reached an agreement for him to sign the pre-contract.

It’s claimed that Palmeiras offered a renewal which meant he’d make more than in England. The player, however, had the ‘dream’ of featuring in the Premier League and chose the move.

There’s mutual respect between Scarpa and the Brazilian club, and he’ll continue to be used until the end of the local season in December. He’s set to fight for South America’s biggest titles until then, and in January he officially joins Nottingham Forest.
