In the past few years, Chelsea have been heavily criticised for the way they treat their loanees, as they kept players under contract and never gave them a chance at the club.

Things have changed recently, especially under Frank Lampard, yet there’s still Blues players dotted around the world who have little chance of actually playing for the London side.

One of these footballers is Nathan, who’s been having a spell at Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro since the summer of 2018.

Back in January this year, his loan contract expired, and there was a little saga around the clubs agreeing an extension for six more months.

Now the last deal is coming to an end next week, and although there continue to be several reports about the negotiations, no agreement has been found so far.

Atletico president Sergio Sette Câmara spoke to Record TV today, and claimed that club director Rui Costa has been in talks with the Blues.

“Rui is trying to make a renewal that is good for Atletico. I like the athlete, I think he performed well,” he said (via Gazeta Esportiva).

“If he went abroad, he was well evaluated. English clubs do not sign without having a very deep analysis. It didn’t happen there, it doesn’t mean that he didn’t do well here.”

Even though websites like Transfermarkt say Nathan’s contract with Chelsea expires this month, there’s actually one more year left on his deal.
