Arsenal’s pursuit of Ituano wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli is backed up by two sources from the Brazilian media on Wednesday.
One of them is one of the most reliable outlets in Brazil, Globo Esporte. They feature an interview with the player today, and when talking about his future, they say his destination ‘should be Arsenal’.
Fox Sports brings a new report, saying that according to people close to the player, Arsenal and another seven clubs have made approaches for him.
They say that ‘according to backstage information’, the Gunners have made a bid of €6m for the striker. They don’t say if the amount is considered big or little, since there’s ‘no minimum price’ set for the player for now.
This is an amount which clubs such as Flamengo and Palmeiras, both mentioned by Fox Sports, could compete with. However, it’s worth recalling that his agent recently claimed that the plan is for Martinelli to move to Europe as soon as possible.
Martinelli has a big game to play tonight. He’s facing São Paulo in the second leg of the State Championship semifinals. As Ituano lost the first game 2-0, it’s very likely this will be their last match in the tournament.
Earlier this month, we had an article explaining why it’s unlikely that Martinelli stays at the club after the end of the competition. So depending on tonight’s result, something could happen.
Globo Esporte themselves says Arsenal should be his destination ‘after the Paulistão’, which officially ends in late April.
