Brazilian journalist Paulo Vinícius Coelho brings today a surprising story on UOL saying Arsenal could soon be landing the Bahia midfielder Ramires.
It’s claimed the Gunners and Atletico Madrid have been both following the player’s performances.
The London side have watched ten of his games, while the Colchoneros scouted only two.
PVC says that although Bahia would like to keep him for another year and ignore the interest from Brazilian clubs, it’s different with the attempts from Europe.
He writes that it’s ‘likely’ that Ramires leaves the country in January, and his ‘most likely’ destination is Arsenal.
The journalist reveals an episode last week, when an official from Adidas went to Bahia to give the player a new contract with the brand.
One of the club’s board members was surprised and said: ”This is not the representative of the sports equipment company that normally talks with the athletes.”
That’s because this time, it was an emissary from Europe wanting Ramires to sign a global contract with the brand. PVC points out that Adidas will also sponsor Arsenal from the 2019/20 season.
The report doesn’t really make it very clear on how the talks between Arsenal and Bahia stand. But Paulo Vinícius Coelho is one of the most reliable, if not the most, sports journalists in Brazil. So it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on this rumour.
