Around a month ago, Everton were all of a sudden linked with a move for Branislav Ivanovic.
The defender’s contract with Zenit expired at the end of July and he’s subsequently free to sign for whichever club he can agree a deal with. Ivanovic himself hinted a move to Everton was close, claiming he’d received a good offer from the Toffees.
Then, as quickly as they arrived, Everton links drifted away.
Championat now reports, according to their own information, that Ivanovic is in talks with West Brom. Negotiations are ongoing, and there’s no indication of where things stand on the potential Baggies signing.
Ivanovic is now 36 years of age, and turns 37 in February, so it’s perhaps unlikely West Brom would be prepared to offer a contract extending beyond the coming season.
Joining Zenit in 2017, the Serbian won the Russian Premier League twice and Russian Cup once. Before that, he had a very successful decade with Chelsea, picking up three Premier League titles, the same number of FA Cups, a League Cup, the Champions League and Europa League.
