Bournemouth are expected to up their bid for Brazilian defender Wesley after seeing a €12m bid rejected by Flamengo.

That’s according to Gazeta do UrUbu, who report that Bournemouth haven’t given up on the full-back despite seeing an initial bid rejected.

A report last week stated that the Cherries had made a €12m bid for Wesley as they continue to try and strengthen Andoni Iraola’s squad after his impressive first season in charge.

Talks were believed to be on going and there was a confidence that a deal could be struck, and Gazeta now report a second bid is incoming.

They say that Bournemouth are ‘determined’ to secure the player’s signature and are now ready to return to the negotiating table with a revised proposal for him.

Those in charge at the club are determined to ensure they don’t get beaten to Wesley’s signature and are preparing a new bid that is ‘significantly higher’ than their first proposal.

O Dia, meanwhile, state that talks between the two clubs are ongoing and Flamengo may consider selling Wesley at the right price. That price is €15m, so not far from the initial price the Cherries offered.

Flamengo are open to a sale but they’re also working behind the scenes to extend the 20-year-old’s contract and have opened talks to extend it by another four years.

There’s every chance that’s just a negotiating tactic to push Bournemouth to pay what they want and get things moving on that front after their first bid was rejected.
