One of the things which annoys the Catalan sport media the most, and there’s quite some competition, is Premier League clubs snatching players from La Masia.
They’re not quite as full rage as they once were, which is likely down to Barcelona’s recent transfer ban for signing youngsters outside of the rules themselves, and also because there’s a growing acceptance youngsters aren’t being given enough chances at the club.
Still, it stings, and Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion being interested in Monchu is getting some coverage in Spain.
In their Sunday edition, Mundo Deportivo state: ‘The main interest comes from the Premier League. Brighton and Bournemouth, who have been following him for three seasons, would be ready to incorporate him as early as summer.’
They don’t make it crystal clear whether it’s both clubs who have been on the case for three years, or just Bournemouth.
Other clubs are also keen, and there are offers ‘raining’ down for Monchu. The 20 year old is currently with Barca B, and Mundo Deportivo make him sound impressive.
He’s their top scorer so far this season, despite being a midfielder, has played more minutes than anyone else, and is also the captain of Barca B.
Monchu first wants to know whether Barcelona are going to give him a shot at the big time, and if not he’ll look to move on. So it’s a waiting game for Bournemouth, Brighton and any other clubs involved.
