Deniz Undav signed for Brighton & Hove Albion during the January transfer window, and was immediately loaned back to Union Saint-Gilloise, as the Belgian club continue to battle in an surprising fight for the league title.
The striker officially became a Brighton player on January 31st, in a deal which had been in the works for a while before deadline day. Tony Bloom owns both clubs, so there was little in the way of getting a beneficial deal done which pleases both sides.
Ahead of the transfer being confirmed there had been suggestions that Undav had been distracted, and taken his eye off the ball a little in recent weeks.
The 25-year-old showed that was all behind him at the weekend, as he scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Royal Antwerp, taking him to 21 goals, and 10 assists, for the season so far.
Undav celebrated in front of the Antwerp fans, and it’s fair to say they weren’t too happy about that. Several objects were thrown the way of the player… including a bottle of vodka.
HLN quote the Brighton owned player as saying: “Some supporters threw everything at my head. A full bottle of vodka, a lighter, a cigarette… What followed on my part was pure emotion.”
Brighton fans will be happy to know Undav is ok, and he laughed the whole thing off.
