Borja Iglesias has scored nine goals and added two assists in 18 La Liga matches so far this season.

He’s eighth in the league’s scoring charts and a big reason his club are safely in the top half of the table. Espanyol have only scored a total of 19 league goals, so the striker has easily contributed to over half of them.

Marca reports on Monday that Everton have been impressed and made moves to pay the player’s €28m buyout clause. All the Toffees would need then is for Iglesias himself to give the go-ahead, and there’d be nothing Espanyol could do to prevent the move.

Unfortunately for the English club, Marca say the 25 year old has rejected the opportunity to move to Goodison Park, and would prefer to stay at Espanyol until at least the summer.

It’s not just Everton, the Spanish newspaper explains Iglesias doesn’t want to go anywhere in the January window, happy where he is for now.

There’s a possibility the Merseyside club could try to tempt him further with increasing piles of money, but Marca seem pretty confident he’d resist.
