Toby Alderweireld hasn’t appeared for Tottenham Hotspur since February 18th and 90 minutes against Rochdale in the FA Cup. He was on the bench for the FA Cup match against Swansea City at the weekend but failed to get off it.

Despite the fitness worries, Belgium called Alderweireld up for the current international break, and Roberto Martinez has made it clear he has no concerns whatsoever about the player’s condition.

Quoted by Belgium newspaper DH, the national team manager said: “Toby Alderweireld is completely fit after a difficult rehabilitation. As far as I’m concerned, he is ready to play.”

Alderweireld is in full training with the Belgian squad, but some Premier League players have been kept apart going through a more gentle routine to help protect them for the end of season run-in.

DH reports that Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, Jan Vertonghen and Eden Hazard have been given their own training programme so as not to push things too hard at an important stage of the season.

Should Alderweireld feature for Belgium and then not go straight back into the Tottenham team on his return there’s sure to be further questions asked about the player’s future at Spurs.
