Djibril Sidibé will certainly be happy on Monday afternoon.
The Everton player has been called up to France’s squad for the current international break.
Lyon’s Leo Dubois had to leave the pitch during his side’s derby defeat to Saint-Etienne at the weekend. Picking up a hamstring injury, he’s been forced to withdraw from the France squad.
Didier Deschamps was then left with the option to call-up a replacement, and it’s the Everton player who has been given the nod.
The 27 year old was part of Deschamps’ squad which won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and his experience at the international level will have no doubt counted in his favour.
The French Football Federation published a statement on Monday reading: ‘Leo Dubois will not be able to participate in the next two matches of the French team against Iceland, in Reykjavik, on Friday, October 11th, and against Turkey, on Monday the 14th, at the Stade de France.
The defender of Lyon went on Monday afternoon to Clairefontaine and consulted Dr. Franck Le Gall, who confirmed the diagnosis of his counterpart at Lyon, namely a muscle injury of the left thigh. Léo Dubois was put at the disposal of his club.
After having registered this news, Didier Deschamps decided to replace him by calling Djibril Sidibé. Everton’s defender is expected in the evening at Clairefontaine.’
Sidibé played for around half an hour at the weekend as Everton lost 1-0 to Burnley, leaving Marco Silva’s side in the Premier League relegation zone.
