Marco Silvestri left Leeds United in the summer to sign up with Hellas Verona, with the intention being he’d battle through to be the club’s number one goalkeeper.
That didn’t happen, and Silvestri only made his debut for the club on Thursday night.
Playing away to Chievo in the Coppa Italia, Corriere di Verona report Silvestri was the subject of boos from some of the home crowd. Before moving to Leeds United, Silvestri was owned by Chievo, and with them being local rivals of Verona… the boos came.
The match finished 1-1 and Silvestri helped Verona by saving a penalty during the match. So, all good for the goalkeeper and now a chance of being first choice?
Not exactly, Corriere di Verona says he’ll now be returned to the bench ‘without a hint of hesitation’ as Brazilian Nicolas has made himself the undisputed first choice, and is one of the best performers of the squad.
Silvestri was ‘keeper for a night’ and for now that’s it, it all seems a little unfair on the former Leeds United man.
But that’s the life of a goalkeeper.
