Arsenal and Roma are yet to reach an agreement over Granit Xhaka, despite the ‘desire of all parties’ to reach an agreement.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the midfielder has put the transfer ‘on hold’ a transfer is still ‘pursued’ by his management.
The website explains that it’s no secret Xhaka is a target for Roma, and he has made no secret of his desire to leave Arsenal either.
There is no agreement in place as yet, though, with Roma so far sticking to their offer of €15m plus undefined bonuses.
It’s the bonuses which are felt to be ‘key’ to the matter as they would be paid next season and reduce the outlay for Roma.
At the top of the list is a bonus linked to his number of appearances, with the Gunners looking to make €1m once he hits 30 games.
That is considered a ‘concrete goal’ as Xhaka is considered reliable, but the amount could be increased or decreased if the number of games is changed.
Then there are bonuses linked to ‘seasonal objectives’, which could take the overall deal to a final price of €18m, which is what Arsenal originally asked for.
There is no movement on the fixed part of the deal at this moment in time, with Roma refusing to compromise on that front as they know Xhaka wants the move.
He has already said yes to a four-year deal worth €2.5m a year, so Roma know all that is stopping a deal is the negotiation with Arsenal.
