Chelsea owner Todd Boehly needs to swallow his ego and listen to Mauricio Pochettino this season after the big mistake of sacking Thomas Tuchel last year.
That’s according to Gary Lineker, who has been speaking to SportBILD regarding the Blues and how they can settle down the turbulent waters at Stamford Bridge.
Boehly took ownership of Chelsea last summer when Roman Abramovich was forced to sell up following Russia’s invasion into Ukraine.
A deal was eventually done and Boehly then embarked on a bold and ambitious plan to overhaul every aspect of the club, bringing in new teams across the board.
That eventually included the management team, where Thomas Tuchel and his backroom staff were sacked and replaced by Graham Potter.
That deal did not work out and he was eventually replaced on an interim basis by Frank Lampard, who guided the team to the end of a completely miserable campaign for all involved.
This change has all gone on in the middle of wild spending in the transfer window, with Chelsea spending of €600m on new players across two windows last year and €200m on new players this summer also.
That’s led to a bloated squad and numerous issues which ultimately led to Potter’s departure, and Lineker has urged Boehly to learn his lessons when it comes to Pochettino.
“In retrospect, it was certainly a mistake (to sack Tuchel),” he said.
“But if you don’t get along with the club owner, it probably wouldn’t have worked out anyway. That shotgun mentality on transfers, the long contracts, young players being brought in for huge sums.
“Tuchel certainly didn’t like all of that. Thomas is one of the best coaches in the world. But I also like Pochettino. I’m sure he’ll calm things down.
“He should listen to Pochettino. That might help. I’ve never met him in person, so I don’t know what he thinks. Boehly should swallow his ego.”
