Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has seen his efforts to add to his football club collection fail, with an effort to invest in SAD Portimonense rejected.
That’s according to Record, who say a €40m bid for 75% of the club’s shares has been rejected by the current shareholders.
The newspaper explains that the majority shareholders at the club rejected a proposal from the Chelsea owner to buy 75% of the shares in the club for an initial €40m.
That figure could have risen to €50m on the basis of certain objectives being met, although the nature of those objectives isn’t mentioned.
Boehly’s interest was serious, though, with the American holding talks with those in charge at Portimonense since September 2022 before eventually ‘receiving a negative response’.
The decision to reject the offer from the Chelsea supremo was made, according to Record’s SAD source, “not for the sake of values, but because the administration continues to believe in the development of this project”.
They insist that for now the matter “is closed and the SAD of Portimonense is not for sale” and a second effort from Boehly and co is not expected.
Indeed, he seems to have not turned hid attention to Strasbourg in France, with negotiations already away for him to add them to a network presumably starting at Chelsea.
This is not the first time that Portimonense have found themselves targeted, with the City Group also making a bid in the past and proposals also arriving from Mexico, China, Japan and various Arab investors.
