Thursday saw Chelsea announce Graham Potter as their new manager, after the Blues came to an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion.
The club showed Thomas Tuchel the exit earlier this week, having been disappointed with their start to the current season. Chelsea are sixth in the Premier League, a place and point above Liverpool, and just like the Reds they lost their first match in the Champions League.
Todd Boehly wasn’t prepared to show patience with his German manager and the change process was set in motion.
Potter was quickly the early favourite for the role, yet it was also insisted Chelsea had been in contact with other options. One of those was Sporting’s Ruben Amorim, and Friday’s edition of Record has an article on the approach.
According to the Portuguese newspaper, Boehly contacted Amorim’s agent Raul Costa, but was quickly knocked back.
The Sporting boss isn’t interested in a move at this stage of the season and wants to finish the campaign with the Lisbon club, despite disagreeing with some transfer choices over the summer.
Record make it clear that Potter was still the priority, and that Chelsea were just setting up alternative options.
