Tottenham Hotspur’s chase for the Boca Juniors left-back Wilmar Barrios continues to be a top story in Argentina. And yesterday, club president Daniel Angelici made some very short comments about the player’s future.
Angelici was interviewed by TyC Sports on Friday afternoon, and Barrios’ sale wasn’t a heavy topic during the chat. He talked a lot about Boca Junior’s squad, and guaranteed that the current players are not leaving the club before the end of the season in December.
But right in the end of the interview, the host wanted to make one question. Without saying the name of the player or the club, he just asked if it’s true that a very important Premeir League side called the president in the past few hours.
“Obviously, only in December, but yes, it’s true, Martin, a big hug,” Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici said, trying to finish the interview.
After these quotes, all the journalists at the table couldn’t stop. So after some insistence, the reporter asked if the player in question was Wilmar Barrios.
“Yeah, it’s a big possibility,” Angelici said.
That was the end of the interview, and TyC’s website didn’t mention any club. But when covering it, outlet Olé quickly mentioned Tottenham Hotspur, who have been heavily linked to the player in the past few months.
