Chelsea face Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening in the first leg of their Champions league tie. For Thomas Tuchel it will be a big test and a chance to get an impressive result for the Blues against Diego Simeone’s men.
Atletico are currently six points clear at the top of La Liga. Real Madrid, in second, have played a game more, and Barcelona, in third, are nine points back.
A lot of hope will be attached to Atleti given the struggles of other Spanish clubs in Europe, and they’ll be expected to put together a tough match for Chelsea.
There’s now a reasonable chance they’ll have to do that without Yannick Currasco. Facing Levante in a 1-1 draw this week, the Belgium international suffered a blow at the Ciutat de Valencia.
That’s seen him pick up an injury, and Radio Marca report there’s a good chance it will mean he has to miss the match against Chelsea.
Given he scored and added an assist against RB Salzburg in Atletico’s last Champions League outing, it’s a worry for Simeone’s side.
