Following multiple reports that Fulham are interested in signing Mateus Uribe from Porto on a free in the coming weeks, the Italian media’s latest update is a bit of a blow to that plan.
That’s because Corriere dello Sport claim that the midfielder has ‘promised himself’ to Lazio for the time being, with Atlético Madrid also pushed forward as an option.
Fulham aren’t mentioned in the article per se, but there’s been more than enough in the past few weeks to suggest Marco Silva wants him at Craven Cottage next year, especially when there’s no transfer fee involved.
The 32-year-old has decided it’s time to leave Portugal to try something new, and there was hope from London that he could be enticed to move to the Premier League.
However, this report from Corriere dello Sport suggests he prefers the idea of Serie A football, perhaps because Lazio are currently in a fight for Champions League football qualification, while Fulham are not.
Maurizio Sarri’s side are currently 2nd in Serie A, eight points above fifth placed Milan, who have been pushed back down after Juventus’s deducted 15 points were temporarily reinstated on Thursday, putting them third.
Either way, Lazio are well on their way to being in Europe’s elite competition next year, and that gives them an advantage over Fulham.
