Already approaching Girondins de Bordeaux for Maxime Poundjé back in the summer, only to be turned down by the player, Fulham haven’t given up on bringing in an extra left-back, if Girondinfos are to be believed.
According to the supposedly well-informed Twitter account, Slavisa Jokanovic’s side have been trying to convince former Bayern Munich defender Diego Contento to join them.
Currently low on Jocelyn Gourvennec’s pecking order, the 27-year-old has only played twice for the club this season, both times in Europa League qualifiers.
With a contract running out in 2018, there was every chance Fulham wanted to try and bring him for very little as early as January, but that won’t be happening, as the side’s way of going about things didn’t exactly please him.
The Cottagers reportedly told him they were planning on sending scouts to Bordeaux’s upcoming reserve games to judge whether or not they would make a move, but it seems Contento saw that as a lack of respect, reportedly telling them to just watch videos of what he’s done previously instead.
Following that answer, Fulham have now allegedly moved on from the former Germany U20 international.
While it’s hard to verify this account’s information, it’s worth noting that Le Parisien wrote an article about it last year, suggesting people within Girondins de Bordeaux were trying to work out who the person behind the account was… after some information leaked few were privy to.
We suppose that adds some weight to what they know.
