Last month, reports coming out of the Danish press stated Newcastle United are in the mix to sign Odense Boldklub’s Yankuba Minteh. It was also explained he’s close to making a switch to the Premier League in the summer.

On April 25th, the 18-year-old publicly expressed his desire to join Newcastle. In addition to this, OB sporting director Björn Wesström had also opened the door to carry out a deal for him in the next window.

OB have denied the Gambia U20 international a chance to take part in the U20 World Cup later this month. This is revealed by Gambia U20 manager Abdoulie Bojang during an interview with Tipsbladet.

The coach has already managed the winger at Gambian side Steve Biko FC in the past. With recent claims linking the teenager to Newcastle, Bojang was directly asked to give his take on the possibility of Minteh joining the Magpies.

“I always tell young players that they should not overestimate their own abilities. I still think it’s a bit early. He is still young. He lacks experience. If he goes to a big club and doesn’t perform, he’s stuck,” he said.

It remains to be seen whether Minteh will take Bojang’s advice into consideration, if Newcastle were to make an approach for him in the summer.

Minteh has five goals and seven assists from 18 games this season for OB.
