Brentford’s Ivan Toney was handed an eight-month ban for breaking Football Association’s rules for betting. This forced the star to miss the first half of the season and he’s been eligible for selection since last month.

The striker marked his return with a goal in Brentford’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on January 20th. Since then, he’s scored a goal against Tottenham Hotspur and featured against Manchester City.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been speaking to the Danish media on various subjects and today’s Ekstra Bladet have relayed his comments on betting. Their title says ‘Frustrated Frank’.

The Premier League side’s shirt sponsor is a betting company, Hollywoodbets. The Dane is having a ‘bit of a hard time’ to understand how it’s illegal for players to bet but for clubs to have these companies as sponsors.

“I would say that, in general, contradictory things happen in the sports world. We are not allowed to place bets, and I understand that, but at the same time we are allowed to advertise it. It’s contradictory that the big bodies allow it, and it’s a bit of a challenge,” he said.

In fact, Frank would have preferred if the Bees would have another company on front of their shirt. At the same time, the coach is aware that it’s unlikely his preference would be entertained by the London club.

“I’ve great respect for the fact that finances must be involved. You can have many good attitudes, but there are many things that must play together, and I should not be the judge of that. But I would prefer that it was another company that sponsored us,” Frank explained.
