Birmingham City midfielder Fran Villalba is waiting for the okay from La Liga to travel to Spain to complete a move to Almeria.

Last week we covered a report from La Voz de Almería that they had the Birmingham man in their sights and their ‘intention’ was to sign him on a permanent deal.

The newspaper have now provided an update on the potential move and say that it is close to being completed.

According to them, negotiations between Birmingham and Almeria are ‘almost closed’, and Villalba is waiting on permission from La Liga to travel back to Spain.

Sources close to the footballer have told them that the midfielder ‘has his bags ready’ to fly to Spain, undergo his medical and complete the move.

The 21-year-old has been watching Almeria games since the initial contact over a move began and is ‘well informed’ about the situation at the club.

He is ‘very excited’ about the move to the Spanish club, where he will work under former Real Madrid midfielder Guti.
