Basaksehir have today unveiled their new signings Kerim Frei and Manuel da Costa to the Turkish press.

During the presentation, Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag informed the media about the financial side of the Frei deal, and he’s confirmed they paid just €1m plus 500k in add-ons to Birmingham City

Gumusdag said to the club’s website: “We have signed a 3 year contract with Kerim Frei and a two plus one year contract with Costa. We will pay €1m for Kerim Frei plus bonuses for a total of €1.5m.”

Frei’s time at Birmingham City lasted only six months and he said: “I’m very happy to be here. I was invited by Abdullah Avci to the club. I can say that I am very happy to serve him.”

Birmingham City will make a loss on Frei after signing the winger from Besiktas for €2.5m in January. Frei made just 13 appearances for Birmingham last season, with 10 of those coming off the bench.

Given Harry Redknapp wasn’t a great fan of Frei last season, when the manager was appointed long term it was no surprise the player’s future was under threat.
