Birmingham City continue their attempts to sign a midfielder this month, and despite working on two fronts, apparently only one of these targets should be joining the club.

Earlier today, we covered reports from Turkey where Trabzonspor manager Ersun Yanal spoke about his player Ogenyi Onazi, who is thought to be close to joining the Championship side.

And this story had a reaction in Italy, where they believe the deal with Trabzonspor would spoil the transfer of Afriyie Acquah from Torino.

CalcioMercato claims Birmingham Coty were close to landing Acquah, but have quit talks for the player as they decided to focus on Onazi only.

So CalcioMercato believe that if Onazi’s move to Birmingham goes through, Acquah should end up staying at Torino, where he has a contract running until 2019.

In Turkey, it’s believed Onazi will be costing Birmingham €4.5m, so maybe the Championship side will be done with midfield spendings this summer.
