Kerim Frei to Birmingham City hasn’t been a normal transfer rumour. Indeed, it hasn’t been a transfer rumour really, the first that was known from Turkey was an official announcement from Frei’s current club Besiktas that talks were ongoing with Birmingham.
At the time it was widely reported in the Turkish media that Frei would be heading to Birmingham City for a fee of €2.5m.
That turns out to be a little out, and Besiktas, as they are required to do, have released the full figures of the sale of Kerim Frei to Birmingham City.
-Birmingham City will pay Besiktas €2.25m for the release of Kerim Frei.
-If Birmingham City achieve promotion to Premier League during Kerim’s initial 3.5 year contract they’ll pay another €500k to Besiktas.
-If Birmingham City manage to stay up in the Premier League during Kerim’s initial 3.5 year contract they’ll pay another €500k to Besiktas.
-After Kerim’s 20th competitive appearance, Besiktas will get another €250k from Birmingham City.
Should all those clauses be met then Kerim Frei will cost Birmingham City €3.5m, and the club will be delighted to pay the extra money.
