Arsene Wenger pretty much needs a defender. Unless he’s keen to patch his squad up by playing footballers out of position, and being an injury away from calamity, then Wenger needs to recruit.
Per Mertesacker’s injury led to pretty strong links to Shkodran Mustafi, although in Valencia they insist there’s been no Arsenal offer yet for the German.
Then the injury to Gabriel Paulista made things worse. Whilst Wenger insists the Brazilian has sprained his ankle, there are huge degrees of severity on that, and the defender’s on-pitch tears may give a suggestion that this one isn’t minor.
Therefore this week will see all kinds of links with Arsenal, and perhaps German newspaper Bild have an interesting one. They state that Lukas Klostermann is a wanted man.
Currently playing for Germany at the Olympics, Klostermann is owned by newly promoted RB Leipzig. Right footed, he can play as right back, and all the positions across defence including left back.
Bild say Klostermann is extremely popular, and that last year Juventus and Ajax were keen on a deal.
Tottenham are said to be interested, sending someone to keep an eye on the player, but Arsenal are starting to make actual moves. Wenger is ‘hot’ on the player, and Arsenal have allegedly made it clear to ‘the environment of Klostermann’ that they’re very interested.
RB Leipzig want to extend the player’s contract, which currently runs until June 2018.
