The German media were largely quiet on Monday with regards to Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, but they’re certainly making up for it today.
First, Ruhr Nachrichten reported negotiations are tough, with Borussia Dortmund sticking to their €120m figure, and wanting a big chunk of that upfront. They questioned whether the August 10th deadline is really concrete, and suggested a transfer could still happen even after Sancho returns from his club’s Swiss training camp.
Then Kicker appeared with a sentence to annoy United fans: ‘According to Kicker information, there is currently no contact between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United.’
That didn’t mean they don’t think a transfer will happen, just that the Premier League club aren’t in a hurry, and that makes it difficult for a deal to be done by the 10th. Kicker explained that whilst Dortmund continue to send the message out about the deadline, that could be a strategy.
Now it’s Bild’s turn. Just like Sky Deutschland said yesterday, they report Manchester United and Sancho have agreed on personal terms, and that means the transfer is ‘getting closer’. He’d earn £340k per week in a five year deal.
When it comes to what’s happening between the clubs, Bild state BVB won’t move an inch from their €120m valuation. There’s been no official offer, just intermediaries ‘scanning’ between the two clubs, which sounds like they’re trying to work out what each other will accept without getting in too deep.
Bild cover the August 10th deadline, but don’t given an opinion on whether that’s a strategy or not.
They end their article by saying Manchester United will be staying in Cologne from Sunday, and ask: ‘Will the Sancho transfer be sealed with a round of Kölsch in the end?’
Kölsch is the local Cologne beer and very much recommended.
