The longer Mesut Ozil isn’t a prominent option for Unai Emery at Arsenal, the more rumours there’ll be about the player’s future.
It could all be a temporary situation, with the Spanish manager wanting to make it absolutely clear he’ll pick the team on merit rather than reputation, but questions over Ozil’s future are to be expected.
Friday brought claims from Italy and England of Arsenal being prepared to listen to offers. Bild say their own information backs that up, and that Inter Milan are keen… but the player isn’t interested in such a move.
Inter are said to have also asked about a transfer in the summer 2017 window, and Ozil wasn’t interested then either.
His plan, according to Bild, is to stay at Arsenal ‘as long as possible’, at least until 2020. He ‘loves life in London’ but fulfilling his wish of sticking around ‘will only work if he struggles harder than usual to become a regular player again’.
It’s then stated that after that 2020 mark is reached, a year before the player’s contract expires, he can ‘imagine a move to MLS or China’.
Bild then claim: ‘There are contacts with the Beckham Club in Miami. But this club starts games in MLS only in 2020… In sunny Florida, Ozil may imagine the end of his career. But until then, he still wants to enjoy the well-paid life as an Arsenal professional in the world metropolis of London.’
