Alfred Draxler, a long standing heavyweight of German sport media, says in his Saturday Bild column that Jurgen Klopp would be looking for a new job soon.
It’s not that Draxler (no relation) feels Liverpool isn’t the right place for Klopp, or that he should keep an eye out for opportunities, the journalist argues that football may not be the right sport for the manager.
After Klopp questioned the Paul Pogba transfer this summer, feeling the amount paid is too much, the Liverpool manager also said: “You can’t say at the end, ‘Only 11 best players will play together and let’s see what happens.’ The day that this is football, I’m not in a job anymore. Because the game is about playing together.”
Those comments have been translated more brashly in Germany, but the point remains.
Draxler believes this is simply the way football is going, although he’s clearly unhappy about it. Headlining his piece ‘Klopp can look around for a new job!’, there’s an insinuation that as good as Klopp’s intentions are, modern football is money orientated, and things are likely to get worse.
