Justin Bijlow is likely to find himself as Feyenoord number one before too long, because the club can’t afford to leave him out after failing to sell him to Southampton.

That’s according to analyst Johan Boskamp, via Soccer News, who believes there will be a change in thinking regarding the goalkeeper before too long.

Bijlow was set to leave Feyenoord this summer, with the club having made it clear he was not their number one and would be behind Timon Wellenreuther.

He was on the verge of joining Southampton but saw that move collapse at the death following a disagreement during his medical, with the Saints questioning the treatment of previous wrist injuries.

They went on to sig Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal and Bijlow returned to Feyenoord to sit on the bench.

The whole affair has been questioned since, with Feyenoord questioning whether Southampton used the medical as an excuse and their manager Brian Priske publicly criticising the Premier League side for the way they treated the goalkeeper.

He even welcomed Bijlow back and Boskamp believes there could even be a change of plans that will see Bijlow back in the picture before too long.

“There are things that surprise me,” he said.

Now take Wellenreuther. Look at Willem II, you cannot say that he is released at 1-1. And it was exactly the same against Sparta, in my opinion.

“Yes, I prefer to see Bijlow under the bar. They of course promised Wellenreuther things because they thought Bijlow would leave, there was no other way.

“I don’t think you’re going to put your goalkeeper who is in the Dutch national team on the bench. Because that is your capital.”
