With reports from Europe this week claiming that Fluminense opened talks for the signing of Thiago Silva from Chelsea, there’s of course some excitement in Brazil about it.
The defender has never hidden his love for the Rio de Janeiro side, and since his contract with the Blues expires at the end of the season, the 37-year-old could finally return to his country and finish his career there.
However, it turns out that when covering the news, outlet O Dia points out that Silva may end up staying at the Stamford Bridge for a little longer than that.
The newspaper writes that there’s still ‘a big possibility’ that the player will extend his deal with the Blues until the summer of 2023.
One of the reasons for that is his wish to play the World Cup in December 2022, as Brazilians know that being at a top club in Europe will raise their chances of being in the squad.
So even though the Chelsea star already made it clear that he should return to Flu, that dream may take a little while to happen.
