Arsenal fans may need to get used to spelling Sokratis Papastathopoulos, because Bild reckon he’s on the verge of a transfer, and the Gunners are the ‘probable’ destination.

This isn’t a usual transfer rumour, the German newspaper sound very sure in what they’re claiming. Arsenal aren’t the only club keen, it’s explained, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus all also linked.

According to Bild’s own information, the defender’s agent Konstantinos Farras is in ‘close contact’ with Arsenal.

Sven Mislintat is presented as the man behind the transfer, with it being pointed out the super scout played a big part in Papa’s move from Werder Bremen to Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

Papa’s ‘rustic style’ is said to be something which would fit perfectly in English football, and Bild reckon Mislintat will be well aware of that.

A transfer is valued at around €20m, slightly lower than usual as the player’s contract expires in June 2019. Bild state there’ll be no announcement until Dortmund have achieved their aims for the rest of the season… qualifying for the Champions League group stages.

BVB are said to already be looking for the player’s successor.
