Big-name Liverpool target expected to be available at cut-price in summer – Club need to clear wages

Even before the injuries to Virgin Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, Liverpool were looking at centre-backs.

Throughout the last summer transfer window, we covered numerous claims from Italy that the Reds were looking at Kalidou Koulibaly, who seemed ready to make the switch away from Napoli.

That ultimately never happened, but this summer could be one that sees them get both another and easier chance to sign him.

This comes from Il Mattino, who explain that Bayern Munich are also keen on the Senegalese, seemingly ready to put forward a €45m offer.

That would normally be laughed at, but it’s explained Napoli need a ‘clean cut’ in their wage bill this summer, and getting rid of Koulibaly’s €7m/year would certainly help, meaning that cut-price fee ‘could be considered’.

The Reds are directly mentioned in this, with it explained Bayern Munich are looking to make their move to ‘anticipate English clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool’, suggesting Jürgen Klopp is still keen on the centre-back.

And at that price, it’s certainly a more palatable affair than the big figures being thrown around a few months ago.
