Even if things had gone quiet for some players, rumours will now be back due to the end of the season. That’s what’s happening to Gelson Martins, who hadn’t been much linked to other clubs for a while, but it’s now time for his agent to be back to talk and tease with a transfer out of Sporting.
Recent rumours had seen Gelson drop from his level of Real Madrid and Manchester United, down to West Brom. It was never stated as such but it could all be a byproduct of Tony Pulis admitting an interest in William Carvalho.
Representative Ulisses Guimarães has spoken to the Lisbon newspapers, and when asked about Gelson’s situation, he said: “We’re in the transfer market and we’ll see what happens.
“There are no bids. There are evidently interested clubs, who have already spoken to me, but let’s see what happens” (via Record).
Then he was specifically questioned about Manchester City, with no clear reason why, and claimed that he “can’t confirm it”.
Newspaper Correio da Manhã, who also reported the quotes, say the list of interested sides includes Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and West Brom.
The Baggies have been linked to several Sporting players in the past few weeks, but would have some strong competition for the 22-year-old.
Given that Gelson Martins has a €45m buyout clause, Sporting won’t let him go for too cheap.
