Even before the news emerged that Paulo Dybala wouldn’t be renewing with Juventus, Manchester City were linked with him.
After all, the Argentine is a rather good fit for the false nine role Pep Guardiola loves so much, but it all seemed to calm down after the signing of Julian Alvarez.
It’s not gone entirely, however, as Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday are reporting Manchester City are one of the clubs ‘thinking carefully’ about making a move for Dybala.
This comes as his agent is ‘now in England’ to do a ‘recon lap in the Premier League’, clearly testing the waters to see who would be willing to welcome his client next season.
It’s pointed out that Atlético Madrid remain the favourites to land the player, perhaps due to the fact Diego Simeone is in charge there, but that doesn’t mean it’s a done deal.
After all, we all know Manchester City could offer him more money, and if Guardiola reaches out and says he wants you to play for him, few would say no.
The idea here is for Dybala and his team to take their time, weigh up their options and simply find the best fit for his career going forward.
Whether that’s a move to the Etihad, however, remains to be seen, especially with Guardiola seemingly pining for a real number nine these days.
