Manchester City are close to signing Barcelona youngster Eric Garcia, according to claims from Spain.
It’s the Catalan outlet Sport sharing the news, and they say the defender, described as La Masia’s ‘greatest pearl’, has told Barça he’s not renewing his contract at the club.
The player’s agent has met with Barcelona director Pep Segura to explain his situation, and from this talk emerged the latest rumours of a Manchester City transfer.
Pep Guardiola’s side would be offering the 16-year-old a salary of over €1m per year, something that Barcelona cannot compete with.
This is coming as a huge blow for the Catalan side, since Garcia was one of their biggest hopes from the club’s academy. Despite his young age, the first team already had an eye on him due to his skills shown with and without the ball.
Manchester City are one of a number of clubs who scout regularly at La Masia, much to the frustration of Barcelona.
