Moussa Dembele became a star of the end of the transfer window as rumours circulated Chelsea had made an approach for the Celtic player. It’s an excitable enough time as it is, but when Dembele flew to London, everything was encouraged further.

Of course, Dembele was simply travelling for medical tests, but the timing was always going to fuel rumours of a possible late, and very big, Celtic transfer.

There’s little doubt that the rumours will pick up towards the summer, there’s already suggestions of a battle for Dembele. From Celtic’s perspective, what Brendan Rodgers has helped the youngster achieve will certainly help the club attract more who could potentially emulate the 20 year old.

With his star rising, Dembele is the subject of a huge spread from L’Equipe on Saturday. The French newspaper are increasingly paying attention to the Celtic player, and no more so than today.

For the article. L’Equipe have spoken to Celtic legend David Hay, and asked him what the most impressive thing about Dembele is: “The goals! It’s simple! He scores, and in important matches. It looks like he understood that he came to Celtic for his career to take off.

Screen Shot 2017-02-11 at 09.18.22“Scotland is not one of the greatest championships and all the big English teams would love him. Yet it seems happy to be there. When he scores, you see a smile on his face. I think Celtic are a good choice for him and he realises this. They become familiar with big club atmospheres while having the opportunity to play, which would be more difficult in the Premier League. This is a very good way forward.”

Hay added that he doesn’t really like making comparisons, but can understand why Dembele has been compared to Didier Drogba.

If Rodgers and Celtic play this right, and if this is the intention, then the club could move to a Benfica style model which sees them recruit young players, let them shine, both domestically and in the Champions League, and sell them on to a bigger league for a huge profit.
