Earlier today we covered claims from German magazine SportBild that Dominic Solanke is first choice for Schalke this month as they look to quickly bring in a striker, probably on a loan move.

It was a big article and Solanke was very much the star of it, with it being explained Schalke would look for Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield club to do them a favour ahead of the second half of the Bundesliga season.

However, Germany’s WAZ say Solanke is ‘not an issue’ at Schalke and quote the club’s general manager Christian Heidel as saying: “There was never contact with Liverpool FC and no contact with the player himself.”

WAZ take that as a complete denial of there being anything in the SportBild claims.

Alternatively it could be that Heidel is trying to keep things quiet, or that Liverpool have already made the German club aware a move won’t be happening this month.

There’s likely to be plenty of interest in Solanke, so the Reds and their player can choose the next destination carefully.
