Emmanuel Adebayor is well experienced in English football, having had spells with Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and, to a much lesser extent, Crystal Palace.
Adebayor made his name in England with Arsenal and did well for the club, well enough to earn the player a big money move to Manchester City. It was a hugely controversial Arsenal exit, and brought about one of the more entertaining celebrations in Premier League history.
Playing for Manchester City, Adebayor ran the whole length of the pitch to celebrate in front of irate Arsenal fans.
Arsenal’s Robin van Persie also accused Adebayor of an attack during the game, something the City player was then banned for.
It was a huge issue at the time, with Van Persie telling Arsenal’s official website: “I am sad and disappointed by my former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor’s mindless and malicious stamp on me during today’s match.
“We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical, I too have made hard and sometimes mis-timed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today.”
Naturally Tottenham was the next stop, and his time at Spurs was hugely up and down. But could he be returning? Probably not.
Italy’s Tuttomercatoweb reports on Monday, in an exclusive, that Adebayor is in some kind of contact regarding a return to Tottenham on a pay deal related to appearances.
We’re not sure we’d even believe this one if we saw it.
