It’s now confirmed that Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jeremy Sarmiento picked up an injury in Ecuador’s last friendly.

When the player was seen limping off the pitch in the first half of the match against Australia, local outlets had already started wondering how serious the issue was.

Now the national team’s official website confirms that after complaining about pain in his right foot, he was ‘immediately’ taken to a health centre for an X-ray test. There, he was diagnosed with a ‘fractured fifth metatarsal’.

The statement wishes Sarmiento a ‘speedy recovery’, and even though it’s clear he’s missing Ecuador’s next friendly, there’s no information about how long he should be out for Brighton.

With metatarsal injuries sometimes taking months to recover, we now wonder whether the midfielder will be able to be back in action for the Seagulls this season.

Besides important games in the Premier League in the next couple of weeks, the most important match Brighton have in mind is the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United, which takes place on the 22nd of April.
