Arsenal may have chosen the replacement for Alexis Sanchez, but it’s not the huge name some fans perhaps expect.
News comes from Argentina today saying the Gunners are interested in buying Boca Juniors forward Cristian Pavón.
Outlet TyC claims that the London side are leading the list of interested clubs in the player, and would be keen on paying his US$37m (€31m) release clause.
Although Arsenal haven’t made a formal offer yet, this could arrive to Boca Juniors ‘in the next few hours’, as Arsene Wenger would be in a hurry because of Alexis Sanches’ heavy links with Manchester City.
Boca Juniors, on the other hand, believe Pavón should get a call up for the World Cup, which would make him even more valuable in the summer. But TyC doesn’t say if this would mean a refusal to sell him in January.
Pavón has three goals in 12 matches this season, and despite being able to play on both wings, he’s been mostly used on the right side at Boca.
Now Arsenal may be in a hurry to get a replacement for Sanchez and all, but is €31m really needed to take a player from a South American club? We don’t doubt the Gunners’ interest, but we’d say that €20m-€25m could be enough to convince Boca Juniors to sell.
