Marcelo Bielsa could be set for a return to former club Athletic Bilbao as he looks for his next job post Leeds United.
That’s according to Marca Argentina and La Voz Deportiva, who both say he is on the list of options being looked at by the Spanish club.
Bielsa remains out of work after leaving Leeds earlier this year, with several reports making it clear he is taking his time before making a decision on his future.
It seems unlikely that the 66-year-old will leave the game full time, and it seems a return to Spain could now be offered to him.
Marca explain that Bielsa is a coach who ‘generates a lot of interest’ for those in charge at Athletic Bilbao, with upcoming elections seeing his name linked with his former club.
Two of the presidential candidates are ‘interested’ in a move for him, and at least one of those has offered him the job as something of a director of football.
La Voz back this up and say he is ‘back on the radar’ at the club, and two of the candidates for the presidency have him as the ‘main reference’ to lead the club’s project or their ‘coordination of football’.
Bielsa is obviously out of work after leaving Leeds, and while the end of his spell at Elland Road may have damaged his reputation slightly, he is still fondly thought of at his former club.
Whether he is interested in a return isn’t mentioned, but a decision will be made after the elections, which are set to take place on 24th June.
